Rev. Gene Calvin Wilson

February 16, 1925 — July 14, 2019

Bonham

Rev. Gene Calvin Wilson walked safely through the gates of Heaven on Sunday morning, July 14, 2019.  He was born February 16, 1925 in Huntington, West Virginia, the son of Charles Logan Wilson and Hazel Cooper Wilson.  He attended Huntington East High School and was later given an Honorary Doctorate of Divinity from Freedom University in Port Charlotte, Florida.  Gene was a US Army veteran of WWII, serving in the South Pacific.  He married Ruth Imogene Maynard on April 13, 1946 in Raceland, Kentucky, and after 70 years of walking side by side through life, she preceded him in death Feb. 24, 2016.

Even as a little boy, Gene 'always wanted to be like Jesus, a carpenter and a preacher'.  He was a member of the General Council of the Assemblies of God, Pastor, Evangelist, and Teacher.  He taught in the Jimmy Swaggart Bible College in Baton Rouge, Louisiana and was a Director of the Planned Giving Department of the Jimmy Swaggart Ministeries.   Gene pastored in numerous churches and pioneered a number of them.  He worked in construction all of his life and built or remodeled the pioneer churches.  His construction work paid the bills when he was starting new churches.  Gene and Ruth moved to Bonham in 2003.

Gene was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers, Buster Lee Wilson, Jimmy Wilson, Richard Don Wilson and Bernard Wilson, one sister, Betty Ann Ammon, and a granddaughter.

Gene is survived by three daughters, Karetha Jean McGeehon and Kay Raiden and husband, Gaylon all of Bonham, TX and Belinda Gay Cookman and husband, Noel of Savannah, Texas, six grandchildren, Brent Dalton, Steven Mangus, Derrell Mangus, Zack Cookman, Andy Cookman, and Nick Raiden, fifteen great grandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

Graveside services will be held at 10:00 AM Friday, July 19, 2019 in Carson Cemetery, Ector, Texas.  Online guest register www.wisefuneralhome.com
