Frances Ann Hooper, a longtime resident of the Bonham, Texas area, passed away after a year-long struggle with cancer. She was 67 years old. Fran was adopted from an orphanage as a baby by Fred and Lenora Bailey Butler, and grew up with her adopted family in La Marque, Texas on the Gulf Coast.
Fran graduated from Texas Women's University with a bachelor's degree in Music Therapy and a master's degree in Occupational Therapy. She had four children with her first husband, John McDonald. Fran and John eventually divorced but remained friends and co-parents. She went on to meet Roger "Country" Hooper, the love of her life. She and Roger remained married until his passing in 2014. Fran was an Occupational Therapist at the Sam Rayburn Memorial Veterans Center for many years, and continued doing OT in rural North Texas after leaving the VA. A gifted storyteller, Fran enjoyed sharing her stories and great humor with anyone willing to listen. She played many instruments, especially the guitar and was a talented singer in several Bluegrass bands. She enjoyed spending time crafting handmade gifts and tending to her goats. Over the years, she took in countless animals in need of a loving home.
Fran is survived by her four children, sister, niece, seven grandchildren, and many in-laws--all of whom she loved dearly.
A Memorial Service for Fran will be held at the Wise Funeral Home in Bonham, TX on Saturday, March 31st at 10:00 AM.
