Funeral services for Bonnie Faye Matthews, 81, of Ravenna, will be held at 3:00 PM Wednesday, Aug. 11, 2021 at Boyd Baptist Church under the direction of Wise Funeral Home. Rev. Mike Allred and Rev. Josh Lott will officiate. Burial will follow in Willow Wild Cemetery. Faye passed away Saturday afternoon, Aug. 7, 2021 at her residence surrounded by her loving family.
Faye was born January 19, 1940 in Bonham, Texas, the daughter of Jack Moore and Dorothy Thornton Moore. She was a graduate of Bonham High School. Faye married Billy Jack Matthews on April 5, 1958 at Seventh & Main Baptist Church in Bonham. She was employed as a sales clerk in the appliance department with Sears & Roebuck in Paris, Texas for 31 years. During this time, she was named Top Sales person many times. Following her retirement in 1993, she went to work as a substitute teacher for Dodd City ISD where she remained until 2000. Faye was the first person baptized in the new baptistry at First Baptist Church in Bonham. She was a member of Telephone Baptist Church for 30 years where she served as the youth department director for 10 plus years. She was actively involved with all of the youth activities including fundraisers, camps and mission trips. After she and Bill moved to the Lannius Community, they moved their membership to Boyd Baptist Church where they remained active until their failing health prevented it. Faye enjoyed gardening, but her top priority and greatest joy was spending time with her family, especially her grandbabies. She was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, Sarah Martin and Gaynell Griffin, a grandson, Clay Matthews and a step grandson, Chad Hunt.
Faye leaves to cherish her memories, her beloved husband of 63 years, Billy Jack Matthews of Ravenna, TX; a son, Kirk Matthews (Wanda) of Paris, TX; a daughter, Suzie Matthews Dickey (Keith) of Ravenna, TX; brother, Kenneth Moore (Mary) of Bonham, TX; 5 grandsons, Tony Matthews (Lynsie), Christian Matthews, Dillon Dickey, Drew Dickey and Dawson Dickey; great grandson, Cooper Matthews; step grandson, Quentin Hunt; a number of nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
Pallbearers will be Dillon Dickey, Drew Dickey, Dawson Dickey, Jack Griffin, Tommy Martin, James Roberts and Tony Matthews.
The family will receive friends at Boyd Baptist Church from 2:00 PM until service time, Wednesday.
