Dwayne A. Moseley passed away peacefully at his Belle Mar Ranch in Wolfe City, Texas, on Wednesday, November 12, 2025, at the age of 89. A man of remarkable spirit, boundless curiosity, and unwavering kindness, Dwayne lived a life shaped by adventure, service, faith, and love. His stories were legendary—told with humor, wisdom, and a softness that made people feel welcome, safe, and seen. He greeted every soul he met with warmth, compassion, and genuine interest, leaving an imprint of goodness wherever he went. Arrangements are under the direction of Wise Funeral Home, Bonham, TX.
Dwayne was born on January 6, 1936, on the island of Aruba in the Dutch West Indies to Walton and Marjorie Cayce Moseley. As a young boy, he moved to Texas, where he was raised on a ranch in De Leon among horses, cattle, and open sky. It was there that his lifelong love for the outdoors began—one that would define his spirit and ground his journey. He later graduated from high school in Beaumont, Texas, and attended the University of Winnipeg in Canada before enlisting in the Marine Reserves.
Dwayne dedicated many years of his life to law enforcement, beginning as a police officer with the Midland Police Department. His dedication and natural investigative instincts led him to serve as a detective in the Homicide and Vice divisions, earning the respect of colleagues and the trust of the community. While in Midland, he met the love of his life, Michelle. They were married in 1972, beginning a partnership of 53 years marked by devotion, resilience, shared dreams, and deep affection.
They later moved to Alpine, Texas, where he accepted the role of Chief of Police, and where their son Patrick was born. Together, along with Dwayne’s children from a previous marriage, Kim and Jim, they spent many a weekend, holiday, and summer together at the Rafter RB Ranch just outside the Big Bend National Park, riding the range, swimming in the river, and loving the great outdoors.
After retiring from law enforcement, Dwayne answered yet another calling: he bought a shrimp boat and spent years as a shrimper in Port Bolivar, Texas, savoring the salt air, hard work, and independence of life on the Gulf. Later, he worked as a landman for Fluor Daniel, traveling throughout Texas and Argentina with the same curiosity that had carried him through every chapter of his life.
In 2012, he retired fully at age 76, settling on his beloved ranch in Wolfe City, where he found peace, purpose, and endless joy in the quiet rhythm of ranching life.
A true Renaissance soul, Dwayne lived with passion and creativity. He boxed, drew, camped, white-water rafted, and thrived in the great outdoors. He was an artist with both pen and story—able to paint a picture with his hands or with his words. His stories—hilarious, heartfelt, and vivid—will live forever in the minds of those lucky enough to hear them.
Dwayne is preceded in death by his parents, Walton and Marjorie Moseley; his brother, Lowell “Porky” Moseley; and his son, Patrick Allen Moseley.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Michelle Moseley; his daughter, Kimberly Smith, and her husband Sam of Tyler, Texas; his son, James Moseley of Tyler, Texas; and his granddaughter, Kathryn Marie Smith of Chicago, Illinois, who adored him deeply and carries forward his storytelling spirit, his tenderness, and his love for people.
Dwayne’s life was one of courage, generosity, grit, and grace. He lived fully, loved deeply, and left this world better than he found it. He will be remembered in every story told around a campfire, every sunset over open land, and every act of kindness done in his honor. His legacy lives on in his family, in the countless lives he touched, and in the beautiful stories he gifted all of us.
May he rest in peace and may his memory forever be a blessing.
