Funeral services for Doris Jean Mayo, 78, of Bonham will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, September 19, 2011 at Boyd Baptist Church under the direction of Wise Funeral Home. Rev. Jerry Clements, Rev. Bill Ledbetter and Rev. Lyn Holly will officiate. Burial will follow in Willow Wild Cemetery. Doris entered her heavenly home Thursday night, Sept. 15, 2011 after a courageous battle with cancer and diabetes.

Doris was born in Ponder, Texas, Nov. 22, 1932 to Osburn Wilson Davis, Sr. and Vivian Roena Funderbugh Davis. She was a graduate of McKinney High School and received her Bachelor's degree from North Texas State University. Doris married James Gerald Mayo, July 28, 1956 in Farmersville, Texas. She taught Home Economics in Farmersville, Wilmer Hutchings and Rockwall ISD, where she retired in 1978 after 23 years. They raised their family in Rockwall and attended First Baptist Church. Doris made her profession of faith at 13 years of age in a tent revival in Frisco, Texas where her parents lived. Doris was involved with Band Boosters and all aspects of her children's activities. She also owned and operated a wedding catering business in Rockwall for 10 years. After moving to Bonham in 1988, Doris was a substitute teacher for Bonham ISD until 1995 when she became a fulltime grandmother. Whether at First Baptist Church in Rockwall or Boyd Baptist Church in Bonham, Doris was dedicated to shaping the lives of young people. She taught the young married women, children and preschool classes. She was a faithful member of Boyd Baptist Church where she served on various committees including the hospitality committee and homebound ministry. Doris became a "Pink Lady" at Red River Regional Hospital where she made flower arrangements for the Gift Shop and pillows which she delivered to the patients. She was involved with the local Relay for Life. First and foremost, Doris was a dedicated Christian wife, mother, grandmother and homemaker. She was preceded in death by her parents.

Mayo of Bonham, TX, their two children, Sharon Ledbetter and husband, Bill of Durant, OK and Mark Mayo and wife, Tammy of Ector, TX,Grandchildren, Jared Ledbetter and wife, Jessica of Ada, OK,Jordan Ledbetter Mills and husband, Logan of Oklahoma City, OK,Morgan, Mallory and Miranda Mayo all of Ector, TX,
Brother, Osburn Davis and wife, Sara of Denison, TX,
Sisters-in-law, Billie Kay Hendrex and Emma Lee Burrow and husband, Larry,
Brothers-in-law, Harold Mayo and wife, Joy and Joe Carol Mayo and wife, Rita, Nephew, Phil Davis and wife Becky and Niece,Michelle Davis, Cousin, Michael Christy,
Two aunts, Noveleen Davis of McKinney, TX and Peggy Rogers of Dallas, TX, a number of nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family.

Pallbearers will be Jared Ledbetter, Phil Davis, Brent Kirk, Gary Don Hendrex, Don Williams and Mark Posey. Honorary pallbearers will be deacons of Boyd Baptist Church, Ronnie Coonrod, Steve Arthur, Brent Speck, David Williams, Randy Moore ad Don Barnet.

Memorials may be made to the Boyd Baptist Church Building Fund or the American Cancer Society.
