Cliff Vellekamp, age 88, of Bonham passed away Sunday, November 6, 2016 at Texoma Medical Center in Bonham.
Cliff was born December 21, 1927, the son of William Vellekamp and Jessie Kellerman Vellekamp. He married Betty Braga on November 20, 1948 in Paterson, NJ. Cliff was a Merchant Marine and later enlisted in the US Army, receiving the Victory Medal. He belonged to Lion and Lamb Ministries. He started his professional life as a home-delivery milkman. In his early years, he and Betty loved square dancing and singing. Everyone loved Cliff; he was considered the life of the party. At the VA in Bonham, he and Betty were known as the "Puzzle People". During bus trips to the casinos in Choctaw, they were often asked to sing. He loved going to the casino, and especially loved the slot machines.
Cliff is preceded in death by brother, William "Bill" Vellekamp and sister, Joyce Hughes.
Surviving are his wife, Betty Vellekamp of Bonham; 3 sons, Glenn Clifford Vellekamp and wife Valerie of Gainsville, FL, Richard William Vellekamp and wife Lonnie of Murfreesboro, TN, and Philip John Vellekamp and wife Lisa of McKinney, TX.; 16 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren; brother, Richard Vellekamp and wife, Anna of South Carolina; and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family would like to express sincere gratitude to the nursing staff at TMC Bonham for the exceptional care they provided, and a very warm thank you to our dad's primary care nurse, Cassandra for the love and compassion she gave to him, and for being by his side when he passed.
