Catherine Lee Goodgion, age 86, of Bonham, received her wings on Saturday, April 9, 2016 in Arlington, Texas. A celebration of her life will be held at 1:00pm Tuesday, April 12, 2016 in the Wise Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. Kevin Davis will officiate. Graveside services will follow at Willow Wild Cemetery in Bonham.
Catherine was born on June 12, 1929 in Lynn Haven, Virginia, the daughter of William Randolph Jenkins and Nellie Estelle Morse Jenkins. She married her beloved sailor, Melvin DeWitt Goodgion on August 27, 1947 in London Bridge, Virginia. She was a homemaker and a member of the Seventh and Main Baptist Church in Bonham. Catherine was also a Past Worthy Matron with the Eastern Star. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, brother, Richard Jenkins, sister, Margaret Maitland, sister, Nellie Lancaster, brother, Thomas Jenkins, son, Melvin Goodgion, Jr., daughter, Wanda Perry, and two grandchildren.
She is survived by her children: Michael Goodgion, Rita Stedman, Karen Bentley and Mary Lou Goodgion, siblings: Audrey Clifton, Barbara Wyatt and Billy Jenkins, 10 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren and 7 great-great grandchildren.
Catherine lived in Bonham, Texas for a long time. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star and was a Past Worthy Matron of the Honey Grove chapter and current member of the Whitewright chapter. She also attended Seventh and Main Baptist Church for many years. She worked at the Snap Center in Honey Grove for several years and was an active volunteer. She spent her last few years in Arlington, Texas where she passed away peacefully on April 9, 2016 at Heritage Oaks Nursing Facility.
The family will receive friends at the Wise Funeral Home Chapel from 11am until service time on Tuesday.
