Billy Jack Matthews

Funeral Services for Billy Jack Matthews, age 91, of Ravenna, Texas will be held at 3:00 p.m. Sunday, December 12, 2021 at the Dodd City Gymnasium in Dodd City, Texas under the direction of Wise Funeral Home. Bro Mike Allred, Bro. Josh Lott and Steve Authur will officiate. Burial will military and masonic honors will  follow at Willow Wild Cemetery in Bonham, Texas. Bill passed away at his home Wednesday afternoon, December 8, 2021, lovingly surrounded by family.

Bill was born on November 20, 1930, the son of Willie Moman "Curley" Matthews and Jolena Boone Matthews. He served in the United States Air Force for four years. Bill married the love of his life, Bonnie Faye Moore, on April 5, 1958, at Seventh and Main Baptist Church in Bonham, Texas. They were married 63 years prior to her passing on Aug. 7, 2021. Bill earned his master's degree from East Texas State Teachers College. He began his teaching career in Powderly, his first Superintendent job was at Windom, then Sam Rayburn for several years and  went on to be superintendent at Dodd City ISD for over 24  years. Bill was fully committed and was a Hornet for life. He was a member of Boyd Baptist Church and worked in the youth department at the Telephone Baptist Church for many years.  Bill was a lifetime member of the Masonic Constantine Lodge in Bonham, Texas. He was also a member of the Dodd City Lions Club. Bill will be greatly missed. He is preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Ronald Moman Matthews (Feb. 8, 2021), a sister, Peggy Scott (1986), grandson, Clay Matthews, and step-grandson, Chad Hunt.

Bill leaves to cherish him memories his son, Kirk Matthews and wife Wanda of Paris, Texas; daughter, SuzAnn "Suzie" Matthews Dickey and husband Keith of Ravenna, Texas; sister-in-law, Bettye Matthews of Bonham, Texas; grandchildren, Tony Matthews and wife Lynsie, Christian Matthews, Dillon Dickey, Drew Dickey, and Dawson Dickey; step grandchild, Chancey Hunt;  step grandson, Quentin Hunt; great grandson, Cooper Matthews; step great grandchildren, Ayden Rose Poole, Asa Kirk Hunt and numerous nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.

Pallbearers will be Jack Griffin, Tommy Martin, James Roberts, Kevin Matthews, John Matthews, Scott Matthews, and Keith Chatterton.

The family will receive friends at Dodd City Gymnasium on December 12, 2021, at 2:00 p.m. till service time.

Memorials may be made to the Ivanhoe Baptist Church
