Billy "Bill" James Griffis

Billy J. Griffis, 83, of Bonham passed away Sunday, July 5th at TMC Bonham. Bill was born May 16, 1932 in Bonham to Jim and Florene Griffis. He graduated from high school in Corpus Christi, TX and served in the US Army from 1952-1954, receiving many commendations, including the Purple Heart, during the Korean War. Bill received his Bachelor's Degree from Sam Houston State Teachers College, Huntsville, TX in 1960 and retired from National Car Rental in 1987. He married Judith Ann Kingery Septermber 7, 1994 in Eureka Springs, AR and they made their home in Bonham. Bill was a member of VFW Post 4852 and American Legion Post 283 in Bonham, the Masonic Lodge, and the NRA. He is survived by his wife, Judy. Bill was preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Thursday, July 9, 2015 in Wise Funeral Home Chapel with visitation from 10:00 AM until service time. Brother Mark Posey will officiate. Burial will follow at Lamasco cemetery. Pallbearers will be Ray Northcutt, Bill Robinson, Ray Wilson, Ray Flood, Danny Johnson, and James Steger. Ray Eady will serve as honorary Pallbearer. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105, or online at www.stjude.org
