Billy Joe Barr

Funeral services for Billy Joe Barr, 92, of Caldwell, Texas, formerly of Bonham, will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday, Feb. 8, 2014 in Wise Funeral Home Chapel. His son, Dennis, and grandchildren will officiate. Burial will follow in Willow Wild Cemetery in Bonham. Billy passed away Saturday, Feb. 1, 2014 at Copperas Hollow Nursing & Rehab in Caldwell.
Billy was born Aug. 21, 1921 in Bonham, Texas, the son of Roy Albert Barr and Elsie Loy Cline Barr. He was a 1938 graduate of Bonham High School and received his Bachelor's degree in Agriculture Economics from Texas A&M University in 1942. Billy married Lucille Eugenia Brannon in 1942, and she preceded him in death Apr. 12, 2008. He was a 2nd Lieutenant in the US Army serving in Europe during WWII. Billy was a rancher in Fannin County, an independent investor and a minister. He pastored churches in Dodd City and Bonham and was a member of Southside Church of Christ. Billy was a member and past president of the Bonham Rotary Club and member and past Commander and Chaplain of the Bonham VFW post. He was widely known in Bonham for his gardening, cooking, storytelling and poetry. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Eugene Barr, and a great grandson, Anthony Barr.
Billy is survived by his son, Dennis Barr and wife, Beryl of College Station, Texas; three grandchildren, Darrin Barr and wife, Tammy of Madison, Alabama,
Kristin Elizabeth Barr of San Angelo, Texas, and Shawn Barr and wife, Heather of Midlothian, Virginia; five great grandchildren, Austin, Alex, Adam, Haley and Haden Barr; a
niece, Peggy Gene Brandt of Austin, Texas; and extended family and friends.
