Leonard

Cremation arrangements under the direction of Wise Funeral Home were made for Betty Kathryn Collida who passed away on Tuesday, March 16, 2021 in Azle, Texas.

Betty, "Grandma" or "Ma-Maw," was born on March 13, 1941 in Houston, Texas to Carl and Velma (Hammond) Sanders.  Betty married Joe, the love of her life, on July 21, 1962 in West Columbia, Texas.  She enjoyed a successful career as a realtor in Texas and Virginia.

Betty was a Texas native who was very committed to, and never forgot, her Humble, Texas "roots" and her extended family who live there.  She always spoke fondly of her many cousins and their past adventures!  She also loved her adopted state of Virginia where she and Joe lived for many years.

Betty loved to tell stories about her cheerleader days,  going to dances, and meeting Joe.  She enjoyed golf and bridge, and her handmade quilts are a treasure.  Her grandchildren enjoyed teasing her about her endless stacks of colorful quilt squares...and the Oreo cookies she kept in her oven!

Betty was known for her strength of spirit and perseverance.  This was never more evident than in the many years spent caring for Joe after his stroke in 1994.  She celebrated each of her children and grandchildren's accomplishments, while also loving and supporting them through tough times.  Betty was a true family matriarch who leaves a legacy of strength and compassion.

Betty is preceded in death by her parents, husband, William J. Collida Sr., and brother Carl Sanders Jr.

She is survived by sons, Stephen Collida and wife JoAnna of Bailey, Texas and William Collida Jr. and wife Angel of Azle, Texas; daughter, Kellie Collida Grove and husband Jim of Blacksburg, Virginia; sister, Rita Weathers and husband James of West Columbia, Texas; sister-in-law Steve Ann Kalinec and husband Lawrence of Kerrville, Texas; sister-in-law Lydia Sanders of El Campo, Texas; grandchildren, Jacob Morris, Ashley Collida, Scott Collida, Ashton Collida, Ethan Collida, Carly Collida and Abby Collida; great grandchildren, Kaylee, Kaycee, and Khloe; numerous nieces, nephews, extended family, and a host of friends.
